Our KS1 learner has had a brilliant half term, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity he has brought to his learning. Our dragon book has captured his imagination and has been woven through so much of what we do.

In English, he has enjoyed reading and retelling the story, learning exciting new vocabulary and writing his own dragon descriptions. At Forest School, he worked hard alongside staff to build a dragon nest from sticks, leaves and natural materials, and in art he designed and decorated his very own dragon egg, thinking carefully about colour, pattern and texture. Music lessons have brought the story to life too, as he created sounds and rhythms to show a dragon stomping, flying and breathing fire.

Food technology has been another real highlight. He has made his own sushi, carefully rolling the rice and fillings, and a colourful fruit salad, choosing, washing and preparing each fruit himself. He then very kindly shared his food with school staff who thought it was fantastic. These lessons have supported his learning right across the curriculum: in maths, he has been weighing and measuring ingredients and dividing fruit into portions; in English, he has read recipes and explained the steps he followed; and making sushi led to some fantastic geography discussions about Japan.

Our KS1 learner is storming ahead in maths, so much so that he has started looking at some GCSE-level material, which is an amazing achievement! He has explored topics such as Algebraic notation, Averages, Indices, and Standard Form.
